Medical Lab Coats: Protection For The Medical Profession

by carnaval on Oct.06, 2009, under Fashion Shoes

Medical lab coats are generally worn by doctors and medical practitioners. In the early times, it was scientists who first wore a white lab coat before anyone else and they were the ones who were relied upon in the field of medicine as doctors at that time were being doubted for a variety of reasons. Since then, doctors started to try wearing the same coats that scientists are wearing in order to enjoy the same respect and integrity that they had.

White lab coats are now worn not just by doctors, but many people in medical industry. The typical lab coat is made with a concoction of 65% polyester and 35% cotton, and also available in many styles and designs. When it comes to designs and length of lab coats, it generally depends on which medical field an individual is working in, and the ethical and work standards set in their place of work. The manner by which they wear their lab coats will depend on these factors as well.

Medical lab coats are important to doctors and other people in the medical field because they primarily protect the clothing that is underneath the lab coat. Since they are typically working in an environment that involves different kinds of mess and spills, lab coats are highly recommended or even mandatory to be worn in the workplace every time. Also, lab coats can give some level of protection from chemical hazards that medical people might be exposed to.

Medical lab coats also give an aesthetic enhancement for doctors and other medical practitioners like nurses, pharmacists, surgeons and lab technicians. It promotes a considerable level of respect and integrity for the one wearing it. Wearing a white lab coat enables someone to be easily recognized as part of the medical field, as it has long been a symbol for doctors and scientists alike.

Medical lab coats are not in all the same in its manufacture. If you are ever thinking of buying a white lab coat, it is a good idea to take note of some important aspects like the coat’s resistance to stains and wrinkles, the number of pockets available for storage, and the openings in the coat which allow for fee movement and easy access to the clothing beneath it.

Medical lab coats are currently no longer limited to plain designs and styles like those which are used by doctors and scientists in the early times. From just being a regular white lab coat, it has advanced to meet changing needs, as well as becoming more comfortable and fashionable. Lab coats now also come in different colors, and have other styles like lab jackets, slipover gowns, fitted lab coats and lab vests. It also now is made to match the individual needs of both men and women.

Lab coats are usually made with a blend of cotton and polyester, but they can also be made with 100% cotton, which is much more comfortable, but can also be expensive as well. They are typically worn by those who are not expecting to work in a spill and mess prone environment, as cotton lab coats have little resistance to stains and can be damaged if not properly taken care of. A white lab coat made with 100% polyester is better in resisting stains and damage.
