Thinking about your evening gown can never be started too early. Like weddings dresses, it is one of the most important dress you will own. Since it is a right of passage from childhood, your prom night deserves all the attention you can give it. Stretch limos will be hired for the occasion by those that can afford it. Photographs will be taken, and kept for the rest of your life ( and possibly for your childrens also) so you want to look and feel) your very best. The very essence of your look is your best prom dress. Your dress will have everything else designed around it; your shoes,makeup,your jewelry and hairstyle.

You need to look honestly at yourself before even thinking about the dress. Are you overweight or too slender?, or are you one of the really lucky (and rare) people who are perfectly proportioned? Are you top heavy or does your bust line leave a little to be desired? Are your hips to broad? Have you long legs? All these factors should be taken into account when you choose your prom dress. One other thing. Don’t actually buy your dress if you select it a long time before the dance. You want the prom dress designs to fit on the night, and you may well gain or lose weight.  Even if your dress is to be custom designed, all these factors still apply.

So now you know your bad points and those you wish to emphasise, you can think about the style of dress you want. To decide which style would best suit your figure, you should take lots of advice. One thing that holds true no matter what you look like. Don’t get anything to tight. It emphasises any imperfactions and makes moving about less easy. You do want to be able to dance all night after all. Go try on a range of different styles and colors and take someone with you to help you make the final decision. Be careful who you choose to take with you. You need somebody who will be brutally honest. You need an honest opinion, so don’t tell them what you think you are looking for in advance.

You should decide on hairstyle and makeup, once you have committed to a dress. If you have long hair, you will have to make the decision about whether to put it on top of your head or leave it around your shoulders. If you have nice clear skin and a long slender neck an upswept hairdo will look terrific. Loose hair may not look very good if the neckline of the dres is ornate. Don’t forget that dancing will probably mess with your hair. You need a hairstlye that will survive the night long dancing. There are many hair ornaments which will help you to keep it under control. If you have short hair, you can always add extensions to your hair if you want to go for the long look or add a false piece set in curls on top of you head for something totally different.

Your evening is about having having a wonderful time, so don’t get totally caught up in the look and design of your gown prom dresses. Whatever your evening gown looks like, the night is about you. It will look good and it will show if you feel happy and confident. So go out, enjoy yourself.
